P618 ORACLE 618 Sun30 Sep C4 2351:02 IVERSIONS 1/5 by Joy Gammon WEAR RARE WOOLS I had a super day out recently at the Royal Showground, Kenilworth when I visited the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) exhibition. The range of attractive and bizarre animals and fowl was enormous. My special interest was of course the knitting and craft side of the show. Lots of sheep were there - and their wares! Various trade stands sold fleeces, yarns, finished jumpers and woven cloth as well as all the tools in order to turn a fleece into a finished jumper. more > > Diversions 610 Go!...619ORACLE VIEWERS HOLIDAY OFFERS 378/9 Go! P618 ORACLE 618 Sun30 Sep C4 2351:35 IVERSIONS 2/5 by Joy Gammon WEAR RARE WOOLS For the knitter, the appeal of using a yarn made from the fleece of an endangered species of sheep is knowing that the animal didn't have to be killed to provide the fleece and also you have helped preserve them by buying the yarn. Most of the rare breed yarns may be dyed either commercially to produce primary colours or with natural products to produce earthy tones. The natural colouring on the sheep was everything from deep creamy colour through to real rich browns and then surprisingly to jet black. more >Diversions 610 Go! ....619Go! P618 ORACLE 618 Sun30 Sep C4 2352:11 IVERSIONS 3/5 by Joy Gammon WEAR RARE BREEDS The Hebridean sheep are dramatic looking creatures thought to have descended from Viking sheep and have jet black fleeces and four black horns. I was very taken by hand spinning and it's possible now to buy a fleece at any stage of the process and "do it yourself" from carding, spinning, dyeing and finally knitting the wool. Also, small firms will card and spin your fleece and return it to you. How about spinning your own? A wheel costs from £150 and is very attractive. Buy them mail order, or try one out at a craft centre first. more >Diversions 610 Go!...619Go! Reviews Your Money What's New
P618 ORACLE 618 Sun30 Sep C4 2358:44 IVERSIONS 4/5 by Joy Gammon WEAR RARE WOOLS Be warned however, once hooked by this ethnic craft method of making jumpers, it can become addictive. I've listed some suppliers of spinning, weaving, dyeing, fleeces, tools, accessories, books and instruction courses, so drop them a line asking for their current cataloguj - and enclosing an SAE. ■ Woolly Shepherd Spinning Emporium, 19 Main Street, Broadmayne, Dorchester, Dorset DT2 8EB. ■ Wingham Handspinning Supplies, Freepost, 70 Main Street, Wentworth, Rotherham S62 7BR. more > Diversions 610 Go!...619Go!
