In a speech to Bramshill Police College, Mr Blair accused the Government of undermining the police and the fight against crime. The reforms would reverse the move towards community policing, he said Liberal Democrat spokesman Robert Maclennan said the Government was going "two thirds of the way to a national police force" with little effective local representation. P133 CEEFAX 133 Fri 17 Dec 16:21/01 2/2 POLITICS MPs have protested about proposed changes to criminal law in Scotland The Government's Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill contains measures for privatising Scottish jails and prisoner escort services. Scottish Liberal Democrat Menzies Campbell said to include provisions of such importance to Scotland in an almost completely English measure was "monstrous arrogance". The Scottish Nationalists compared Scottish Secretary Ian Lang to a "second-hand prison salesman".
