Smoke bombs, fireworks and flames — you name the pomp rock/Spinal Tap cliche, they provided it. And every second the grin on my face spread wider. Okay, they may have made a slow start with a new song, but after a couple of numbers it was pure, unfettered rock. And after a hernia-inducing rendition of Black Shuck, the arena was on its feet begging for more. —————————— by Clare Matheson ———— 1/3 Games 550 Children 570 Soaps 525 Music 530 TV Index 520 Films 540 MusicQuiz The Vibe Games Singles

Ripping through a blistering set — whth a quite literally blinding lightshow — the band were every bit as good live as they are on record. Maybe a couple of the new tunes could have been dropped, but then we may have missed out on English Country Garden and The Girl With The Hazel Eyes. But Givin' Up and Get Your Hands Off My Woman were rock genius. —————————— by Clare Matheson ———— 2/3 Games 550 Children 570 Soaps 525 Music 530 TV Index 520 Films 540 MusicQuiz The Vibe Games Singles

Frontman Justin Hawkins burst onto the stage in a glittering, silver-sjquinned catsuit before soaring above the adoring crowds on a stuffed white tiger After that axe-weilding crowd-pleaser, and a few encores the final number was, of course, Christmas Time — complete with festive trees plonked on stage. And if I could make a wish, it's that Hawkins and Co could start my Yuletide season with a bang every year. —————————— by Clare Matheson ———— 3/3 Games 550 Children 570 Soaps 525 Music 530 TV Index 520 Films 540 MusicQuiz The Vibe Games Singles
