Around 40% of rear seat passengers and 10% of front seaters do not wear seatbelts, according to the RAC. It is calling on drivers and passengers to be more vigilant. In a dossier compiled by the RAC, drivers said they either forgot or "couldn't be bothered". The Department of Transport estimates that around 10 front seat passengers are killed every year by unbelted rear seaters hitting them in a crash.
