The magazine claims it has uncovered evidence the Government will tie the supply of public finances to the introduction of city centre tolling. Such a system is likely to make use of GPS satellite tracking or DSRC - Dedicated Short-Range Communications - which uses microwaves to communicate with roadside beacons. Around 40% of rear seat passengers and 10% of front seaters do not wear seatbelts, according to the RAC. It is calling on drivers and passengers to be more vigilant. In a dossier compiled by the RAC, drivers said they either forgot or "couldn't be bothered". The Department of Transport estimates that around 10 front seat passengers are killed every year by unbelted rear seaters hitting them in a crash. And as part of Think Before You Drive! month, it is urging all drivers and passengers to belt up.
