The bomb was hidden in a culvert under the road and detonated as a patrol went past. The explosion occurred just before 11 o'clock to the south of Crossmaglen, in the Mount Hill area near the border. P219 CEEFAX 219 Tue 29 May 21:13/30 Three policemen have gone on trial in Belfast accused of the murder 18 monlhs ago of an IRA man in the Craigavon area Sgt William Montgomery, 28, Constable David Brannigan, 35, and Constable Frederick Robinson, 26, have denied the charges. The prosecution claims the police officers opened fire on a car in which the IRA man was travelling. A US State Department spokesman said lhe missiles and 200 launchers were already in Saudi Arabia and would be handed over shortly. He said the President had authorised the sale under his emergency powers, by-passing congressional approval procedures. A convoy of lorries, the second today, left wijh coke supplies for the Scunthorpe steelworks. Police were pelted with stones and pieces of wood, and officers in rioj gear and on horseback restored order by charging the crowd. There was also trouble this morning, when the first lorries arrived. In all, 82 people were arrested and 62 hurt - 37 police and 25 pickets.

The camps are used to train saboteurs and assassins according to the Libyans. The official Libyan news agency said the camps were set up by Sudanese President Nimeiri under the guidance of the United States, Britain and Israel. Libya has alleged that members of an armed group captured in Tripoli three weeks ago confessed that they were recruited by the CIA with British co-operation for sabotage in Libya.

Three weeks ago the Government announced that no widows would be included in the officiaH arrangements. But public reacjion to the decision has produced a dramatic about face. The 22-year-old Sheffield rider was pipped on the line after leading a six- man bunch on the second circuit of the Malvern Hills. SwUss rider JNcelyn JNMidon won the sprint finish in an overall time of three hours 25 minutes 23 seconds. West German Peter Hilse and Elliott followed with the same time, with USSR rider Aleksandr Zinoniev fourth.

Acting captain Gordon Greenidge hit a superb 186 not out as the tourists reached 297-6, Larry Gomes (87) sharing in a stand of 229. Fowler set out his stall for Thursday's first one-day international with 94 runs in Lancashire's 241-7, hitting 15 fours and a six. A stand of 87 from Simmons and Maynard kept Lancashire hopes alive but they never quite reached the required rate.
