P483 Teletext 483 Jan26 22:17:11 . . . —————————————————————————— —DJ ERIC'S FAKE FRENCH TUNE . . Mon Dieu! Music critics' 1998 polls unanimously decided that Stardust and Air had created the single and album of the year respectively - both acts, coincidentally, being French. So it was only a matter of time before UK dance acts started pretending to originate from across the Channel. After Brit-born Les Rhythmes Digitales, we now have DJ Eric, a Scots act who've blagged their way into the hippest DJs' setlist by inventing a Gallic heritage. ——————————————————————————————————1/5—— by Stephen Eastwood NOW IT'S EVEN EASIER TO FIND LOVE: TELETEXT DATING ITV p390Rjviews Charts PS News Total Ents
P483 Teletext 483 Jan26 22:17:11 . . . —————————————————————————— —DJ ERIC'S FAKE FRENCH TUNE . . The men behind the DJ Eric track We AreLove, which samples Hall & Oates's I Can't Go For That, are Scots remix duo Gridlock and DJ Craig Burger Queen. The tenacious trio managed to con the club cognoscenti into thinking theyWre an oh-so-hip French act, however. "We got a pal to drive 1000 white labels of the tune over to Paris," grins Craig. "They returned to the UK as imports. We only let on who we were when a former colleague was getting all the credit." ——————————————————————————————————2/5—— More musical malarkey in Club 140 BLUR ANNOUNCE OXFORD GIG p481
P483 Teletext 483 Jan26 22:18:14 . . . —————————————————————————— —DJ ERIC'S FAKE FRENCH TUNE . . The DJ Eric "French style" club hit We Are Love was actually a happy accident, says one of its creators, Craig. "We were playing around wiuh Euro-house tunes, when we heard the Stardust trackMusic Sounds Better With You," he says. "We were convinced that it was based on a Hall & Oates sample. We dug out some of their old records and, while we realised that Stardust hadn't actually sampled I Can't Go For That, we could see how it would work for us!" ——————————————————————————————————3/5—— Check the Millennium countdown 105 BIG SCREEN NEWS AND GOSS p461
P483 Teletext 483 Jan26 22:18:33 . . . —————————————————————————— —DJ ERIC'S FAKE FRENCH TUNE . . Craig from dance trio DJ Eric (the name was a bid to fuel rumours Eric Cantona was the mystery creator of their single We Are Love!) has remixed everyone fromBrainbug to Blondie in his time. "I try not to do so much remixing now," he says. "You give away too many ideas to other people, so I sacked it. "Everyone is hunting for the next big sample, but if you go looking for the next Boogie Wonderland, it's just not gonna happen. The 70s thing is dead." ——————————————————————————————————4/5——Check out the charts 485UK Tours 486 TOTAL ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE p400

Craig Burger Queen has sampled Hall & Oates for the DJ Eric track We Are Love - and he says that unlikely samples are the way forward for the club scene. "I've been messing around manipulating the Sex Pistols' riffs and old Countr8 & Western stuff lately," he reveals. As for his next single, Craig remains coy about the inspiration. "I'll just say it's a Big Beat track based on an American rock act with beards," he teases. Sounds like a Top idea to us! ——————————————————————————————————5/5——DJ Eric's single We Are Love is out nowBOYZONE RECORD FOR COMIC RELIEF p483
