The 225-share Nikkei average was up 45.96 points (0.3%) at 16,953.35, underpinned by steady demand from local institutions. Hong Kong (Close): Stocks advanced 2.4%, as the Hang Seng index closed 148.11 points higher at 6,351.99. The all ordinaries index closed 2.7 points higher at 1,609.6, having been down over seven points at one stage amid uncertainty over the outlook for interest rates. Singapore (Close): Shares retreated - led by sharp falls in index stock Inchcape Berhad after it announced plans to sell its timber business. P246 CEEFAX 246 Fri 26 Feb 21:15/17   3/3  EUROPEAN STOCKS    Frankfurt (Close): German shares enjoyed strong gains on the back of a bond market rally. Dealers also cited intensified speculation of an early cut in domestic interest rates. The DAX index finished 25.44 points higher at 1,684.35. Paris (Close): The CAC 40 index closed 39.07 higher at 1,983.71.
