Despite a slight mistake two out, Peter Niven's mount beat Rodeo Star by an impressive 10l to record his first win for two years. Niven seems to get on particularly well with Ruling and this was the first time the pair had gone to battle together this season. He said: "We were starting to worry about whether the horse was still keen but I'm very pleased with him. "I think we've got him back now as he's done it well, coming away very nicely. I suppose he'll be Champion Hurdle favourite now," he joked. Although his price has been slashed that statement isn't quite on the mark with Ruling now a 16/1 chance for the big race with William Hill. Niven also reported that Cab On Target, from his retained Mary Reveley stable, runs next week and would then be aimed at Cheltenham's Cathcart Chase if all went well.
