Statistics released today reveal a continuing fall in the number of horses in training is jeopardising the racing programme itself. The Jockey Club is urging action to be taken to restore confidence in the industry and attract new owners to the sport. P391 CEEFAX 391 Fri 26 Feb 21:03/46 2/2 RACING NEWS: GLOOMY NEWS CONTINUES The figures included in the Jockey Club report show that: the decline in the horse population has accelerated over the past three years, and is expected to continue in 1994. the steepest reduction (15.8%) was in four year olds over the last year and there was also a fall of 10.8% in jump horses. the average number of horses in training will have fallen by 1,963 (16.2%) since 1990 by the end of the year.
