The advanced materials specialist has announced final profits of £72m at the pre-tax level (see page 216) and launched a rights issue raising some £185.6m after expenses. Shareholders are being offered the new shares on a one-for-four basis at a price per share of 170p. A statement put out by the broking house said "it was no longer aware of any third party whose interest might lead to an offer being made". But it did say it was considering a bid for its market-making offshoot, Winterflood Securities. Early last month, Union Discount - one of the City's old-established discount houses - said talks over its future ownership were underway.
