But from Monday, pubs will have to pay 20% more to show Sky, bringing the new average monthly payment to £336. When the Premier league started 10 years ago it was £4.26 a month, says Bob Cartwright, of Mitchells & Butlers,owner of the O'Neills chain. Cash-strapped clubs are desperate to get players off their payroll, even if they don't get a transfer fee. Leeds will continue to pay about 30% of Mills' £40,000-a-week wages. The team have missed out on the lucrative group stages of the competition, worth at least £10m. They will now compete in the UREA Cup.
