Miner BHP Billiton was a case in point, with the higher payout cheering the City which was told China will be the main profits driver in the 9ear ahead. While BHP Billiton gained 6p to 415½p, rivals slipped following strong gains earlier this month. By contrast, the heat has proved a bonus for the brewers. The Foster's to Kronenbourg drinks group Scottish & Newcastle said it has enjoyed excellent sales this summer. Despite the cheer, its shares eased 9½p to 376p.
