He said Mr Blair had reduced Labour to "a sort of smiling anaemia". Robert Maclennan quoted Lord Acton who said they were "an association for the preservation of office and the distribution of patronage". He stressed the Thatcherite policy of wealth trickling down and asked: "Did that happen? To you?"
