P697 ORACLE 697 Sun30 Sep C4 2352:18 Tel: (0962) 822444 5/9 CHANGES IN INDEPENDENT BROADCASTING The Broadcasting Bill is likely to receive Royal Assent this autumn with its provisions coming into force at the beginning of 1991: A new Independent Television Commission(ITC) and a new Radio Authority is to succeed the IBA in January 1991. The ITC will license and regulate all commercial television in the UK (cable,satellite and terrestrial). The Radio Authority will assign frequencies, issue licences and regulate all UK independent radio stations. The IBA transmission network will be privatised from 1 January 1991.
