P117 CEEFAX 117 Fri 3 Dec 16:13/21   1/3     HOME  REPORT ISSUED ON "FAILING" SCHOOLS Inspectors have published reports on two schools which "fail" to give an acceptable standard of education They are Crook Primary School, Crook, County Durham, and Brookside Special School, Breadsall, Derby. The schools are the first to be identified as "failing" under a new law which empowers the Government to send in a team to take over a school and ultimately close it. P117 CEEFAX 117 Fri 3 Dec 16:22/21   2/3     HOME  SCHOOL DISAGREES WITH "FAIL" REPORT The governors of Crook Primary School say they disagree with many of the findings of the report which identifies it as a "failing school" "The governors are both concerned and disappointed to receive this report," said their chairman, Bob Pendlebury, who is also deputy leader of Durham county council. P117 CEEFAX 117 Fri 3 Dec 16:22/34   3/3     HOME  COUNCIL MOVES TO IMPROVE BROOKSIDE Brookside Special School governors and Derbyshire County Council have pledged to take urgent action to improve standards at the school. A package of measures is being drawn up after inspectors branded Brookside a "failing school". Immediate steps include a freeze on admissions, the appointment of an acting head and better monitoring. Education chairman Dave Wilcox said the county council would "work hard to ensure services are brought up to standard".
