P386 CEEFAX 386 Thu 13 Jan 21:11/48  2/6  WINCANTON REVIEW:  BRASS IS TOPS  Top Brass has always been well regarded by connections but he has failed to live up to his reputation in his three British outings so far All that was put behind him today when he landed the first division of the Gorscombe Novices' Hurdle. In breaking his maiden tag at the fourth attempt Kim Bailey's gelding came home 1½ lengths ahead of Sparkling Flame. The reigning two-mile champion, sent off the 4/9 favourite, had to be kept up to his work to win. Though there was just over £5,000 at stake today trainer Josh Gifford had no regrets about the change of plan saying: "Whatever happened he would never have run at Warwick. He will go for the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury and then the Queen Mother Champion Chase," he added. It's nearly two years since Jenny Pitman's Toby Tobias last visited a course but you'd never have thought it as he stayed on for third place. It was an encouraging performance by Toby Tobias who couldn't cope with the finishing kick of Deep Sensation and Elfast. P386 CEEFAX 386 Thu 13 Jan 21:43/51  5/6  WINCANTON REVIEW:  TOBY GOES TO CHELTENHAM  Runner-up Elfast's will run in the Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham, but the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the target for the third Toby Tobias who ran so encouragingly here. Mark Pitman said after the race: "He has run a cracking race. He was a bit rusty early on but he warmed to the task. "He will come on for that run and will return here for the Jim Ford Chase before another tilt at the Gold Cup. For she simply outgalloped her rivals to win the E.B.F. Blackmore Vale Mares' Novices Handicap Chase from Prudent Peggy. Richard Dunwoody had to wait till the last race before recording a success but when he did it was done in style on Gales Cavalier.
