A Tokyo finance ministry official noted that the surplus for the 10 months to January was $95.24bn, or already above the record $94.14bn seen in fiscal 1986/87. Both the current account and trade surpluses in January were records for the month of January, reaching $5.21bn and $7.03bn respectively.
