That figure increased to 66% after the second. His mount Piper O'Drummond a course and distance winner showed a liking for the track with victory by two lengths over Beyond Reason. Sue Bramall said, "He ran a fine race when runner-up to The Laughing Lord at Haydock last Friday, and I was reasonably confident that he would win today." Bellton had beaten Majed by half a length at Nottingham last week but found himself 10lb worse off,a fact that didn't escape punter's notice. Although Bellton led over the final two flights the backers must have felt very happy as Peter Niven's mount took it up after the last. Two lengths clear at the line, he could go to either the Trafalgar House Supreme Novices Hurdle or the County Hurdle at Cheltenham.
