The Aire is in reasonable form for catches of small fish and there have been some notable quality dace catches at Saltaire. Sport is patchy on the Wharfe particularly at Ullescelf. The Ure is the most consistent river in Yorks with plenty of fish through the system. On the canal front the New Junction is excellent for roach with 6-8lb catches needed to win most sections. Low rivers combined with high tides from the North Sea have caused major problems on the Thurne and Bure. The Bure is affected as far up as Horning and the Thurne up to Martham. Thousands of small fish have perished and a few hundred large fish have also died due to the salinity of the water. Elsewhere the Yare is in top form and this weekend's Yare Championship should be a classic match.
