Brian McNeill, a shirt cutter from Mourne Drive in the Waterside, was remanded in custody at a special court in Limavady, to appear again in Belfast on 12 November. He is also accused of possessing guns with intent to endanger life and with membership of the UDA. The seven people died when gunmen opened fire in a bar last weekend. More than 200 workers at the Royal Ordnance factory in Birtley, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and 97 at the Royal Ordnance site in Glascoed, Gwent, will lose their jobs. Compulsory redundancies could not be ruled out, the company said. British Aerospace said the cuts reflected the "reduced defence spending in the UK and worldwide". But he hinted to BBC Radio 4's Today programme that job losses and cuts in overheads might be needed to pay for the new programmes. Customs officers made the arrests at a beach on Hayling Island and in Lyndhurst in Hampshire, London and the Home Counties. The drugs are thought to have come from France in an inflatable boat. The large haul includes mortars, hand grenades and explosives and police believe white right wingers were involved in the theft.
